Akadimia Platonos, or Plato’s Academy, is a quiet neighborhood located 2 km (1.3 miles) west-northwest of downtown Athens and just a 15-minute walk from the capital’s gay area, the hottest and most youthful place to be at night: Gazi. The area is named after Plato's Academy, simply because the ancient Greek philosopher founded his famous School here 2,400 years ago. A modern-day archaeological park is the only reminder of antiquity’s prestigious academic institution, just at the doorstep of the apartment. Supermarkets, restaurants, cafes, convenience stores, dance schools, and gyms are all located within a short walk’s distance.
