Thick brick walls, houses dating back to the 13th century and inhabitants dressed like in one of the Robin Hood movies, these are just some of the images we see and know of Tallinn.
Beyond this rich history, Tallinn was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. This protects the richness of the heritage that tourists are particularly looking for when they come to Tallinn. But when you really discover the city, you realize that the Estonian capital has managed to blend the Baltic and medieval history with a modern and current city.
The Second World War left heavy traces on its path. Despite the official end of the war, Russian troops remained in the country until the early 1990s, giving the country's population independence. The country quickly rose from this past and today Tallinn is one of the most prosperous tourist cities in Europe.
Tallinn's gay scene
Little by little, life for gays in Tallinn is becoming more prosperous. There is a lot of work to be done before there is tolerance for diversity. In recent years, Tallinn has opened two new nightclubs. This is one of the many signs that this city may be able to give itself a "gay friendly" image.
Gay and lesbian tourists visiting Tallinn will find 3 gay friendly hotels. Euphoria, Schloessle and the Telegraaf offer respect to gay couples who will spend their nights in their establishments.
Even if Tallinn does not have many gay friendly establishments yet, there are still about 20 gay friendly places all located in the city center. Whether it's a nice little corner bistro, a charming hotel, a men-only nightclub, Tallinn is getting a little bit pinker every year!
