I walked through the Vieux-Lille for the first time on a grey November afternoon, and the combination hit me in a specific order: the Flemish baroque facades, the narrow cobblestone streets, the particular light that comes through those high windows, and then - at the end of rue Royale - Le Privilege, its lights already on at 5pm, the door open.
