Other archaeological sites: Cobá (ruins surrounded by jungle where you can climb the pyramid) is easily reached in 1.5-2 hours (about 110 km). The ruins of Tulum are closer and more coastal.

Additional adventures: Snorkel with turtles in Akumal (30-45 minutes south), travel by ferry to Cozumel for diving/snorkeling or explore hidden gems like the subway rivers of Rio Secreto.
