Maspalomas Gay Pride is one of Europe’s biggest and most-celebrated gay events, with tens of thousands of locals and tourists flocking to the Spanish island of Gran Canaria each Spring. Maspalomas is a very popular gay hotspot any time of the year thanks to its dreamy beaches, the year-round temperate climate and of course the Yumbo Center - an LGBTQ enclave of bars, restaurants, and clubs. During Maspalomas Pride,every year in May however, things reach an all time high, with thousands of pride enthusiasts descending upon this island paradise to celebrate their pride in the sun.
Every year, you can expect the streets of this beachside town to get packed with throngs of gay guys and girls from around Europe and the rest of the world. Taking place in and around the infamous Yumbo Center and Playa del Ingles, the popular duned-beach, Maspalomas Gay Pride is one of Gran Canaria’s biggest LGBTQ events. The event usually transpires over the course of roughly ten days, and includes a pride parade along with lots of themed parties.
The streets of Maspalomas are filled with ever growing crowds during the annual Maspalomas Gay Pride. Maspalomas Gay Pride was first held in 2001 in the southern part of the Gran Canaria island when the City Council of San Bartolome de Tirajana along with a few Yumbo Center entrepreneurs joined forces to create what is now the largest event on the island. Since then it has grown exponentially, attracting an estimated 100,000 attendees each year.
Gay Pride Maspalomas continues to be a beacon for LGBTQ rights, and is the biggest supporters against discrimination and violence against against gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals. By celebrating an incredible Pride annually, and supporting the local LGBTQ culture of Gran Canaria throughout the year, Gay Pride Maspalomas aims to promote respect and reocognition for the LGBTQ community, and eradicate any form of stigma or judgement.

Maspalomas Pride 2020 will be illuminating the island of Gran Canaria from May 7 to 17, and will include a jam-packed 10-day program of parties, boat trips, beach festivals, and of course the extravaganza that is the street parade in Playa del Inglés. This will be the 19th edition of Maspalomas Gay Pride, and as per usual, an expected 100,000+ party enthusiasts are expected to attend. Many of the activities will take place at the popular Yumbo Center, so be sure to pencil in a couple of visits there during your time in Maspalomas, to soak up all the pride spirit.
The highlight of Gay Pride Maspalomas is arguably the incredible Pride Parade, which for 2020 will take place on May 16. Things will kick off at 12pm, and wind its way across the esplanade with plenty of color. There will be floats, music, and loads of people marching in solidarity with pride, so be sure to arrive on time to avoid missing out on this iconic part of Gay Pride Maspalomas.
But Gay Pride Maspalomas is not just known for its Pride Parade. For 10 days, you can expect an impressive program of entertainment catered to a range of different tastes. Temperatures sure can get hot in Maspalomas, so if you're looking for a way to cool off, and have a heap of fun, you need to head to the Wet & White Pool Party, which will this year be taking place on May 13, from 12pm to 8pm. Having sold out consecutively for the past four years, this event is a firm favorite in the Maspalomas Pride schedule, so be sure to grab your tickets to avoid missing out. After all, this year will be welcoming DJs, Sharon O'Love and Micky Friedmann, so what's stopping you?
When in Gran Canaria, a session by the sea is obviously in need, and fortunately Gay Pride Maspalomas will be hosting the incredible Afrikat Boat Excursion, which will take place from 2:30pm on Friday, May 15. This will be the perfect way to experience your pride at sea, and will include free beer and sangria, a lunch buffet, a banana ride, and entertainment. There are limited spots available for this, so be sure to secure your place if you like the idea of dancing away at sea. Can't make this? Don't despair, perhaps one of the biggest events, Freedom Party – Dirty West, will be transpiring again for Gay Pride Maspalomas 2020. Things will be getting rowdy in Sioux City, on Friday May 15 from 2pm - so we'll see you there.
And because this sunny island enjoys warm weather all-year round, you can party during the night and recover on the beach - topping up your tan while you’re at it - during those sunny afternoons. Then you can get ready to party all over again!
