According to our Fabul'Host Juliano, you can't get the best of Ipanema without some insider tips. So follow his suggestions to make the most out of your stay in Rio de Janeiro. misterb&b hosts are your best bet to discover everything you need to know about gay events, parties, cool bars and daytime activities that guarantee an unforgettable trip. Explore the world and experience your pride.
How gay-friendly is your city? What's gay life like there?
Rio is very gay-friendly, especially Ipanema where I live. Even if Ipanema is quite gay, there isn’t really one true gay bar: gay life here mostly happens at the beach during daytime. Then clubs and parties are all over town and you need an insider to tell you what the good spots are.

What are the best gay events that take place in your city each year?
Carnival is amazing! I would never miss it! The city becomes a huge playground we call Blocos do Carnaval: parties, samba and kissing contests where even some straight guys play. Wear very little clothing because the temperature is high, just a sunga (swimwear, Editor's note), some glitter on your body and hit the streets. Again, it’s better to have an insider tell you where the street carnivals are located and where the hotties are! In case you do not like street blocos, the beach is always packed during Carnival too, and I’m sure you’ll find some action. At night, there are always big club parties and pool parties that bring together the best DJs with the hottest guys in Brazil and the world.
We only have 48 hours in your city. What can’t we miss?
You should definitely go to Ipanema Beach with its beautiful Dois Irmãos view. Ride to the top of the Sugar Loaf and check out the beautiful views of Rio. Head to Copacabana, and take pictures on the famous sidewalk. If it’s a Saturday and it’s the right time of year, you can catch a Samba school rehearsal at Salgueiro school, which is my favorite.

What’s your favorite gay place to grab a bite for lunch? A nice dinner?
Rio is very relaxing. There are no real gay restaurants, if you want to check out the hotties pick a place along Farme de Amoedo Street in Ipanema, Nectar Sucos juice and Fast Foods for example are the best spots. At night, I like to go to to Leblon on Dias Ferreira Street at Zuka or to a restaurant called Quadrucci.
Best gay place and day for a cheap beer or happy hour?
Ipanema Beach, in front of Farme de Amoedo street. You can drink and chill from morning to sunset: rivers of beer, coconut water and Caipirinhas. That’s where the socializing takes place and that’s where you’ll see the hottest guys in the world.
We’re ready to party! What are the best gay clubs?
There are always parties in Rio but they often change name and venue, and as opposed to what you think, the good ones are never in the Zona Sul (Ipanema / Copacabana / Leblon). You really need to have a local tell you where to, or you can always check out the related Facebook events. The go-to place is The Week, there are cute parties every Saturday night. It plays house and the upper section is more pop/funk. Joy, Revoltion, Boho, Infame are some other popular ones. Around News Years, Carnival and holiday weekends there are always special parties, you need to keep your eyes open for flyers or check out events on Facebook.

Can you share a secret or little-known place to visit in your city?
Rio has amazing natural treasures with amazing picture opportunities! I love to take my guests on top of the Dois Irmão mountain for a jaw-dropping view of Ipanema and Leblon. A much easier hike is Pedra Bonita, even here you'll get amazing views of São Conrado beach. ●
