A quiet retreat into older Japan

I had a wonderful stay at Jonni's place, his house is very beautiful in a quiet area and Jonni is so friendly and helpful and I really liked his british humour. So nice, that he picked me up at the train station and also brought me back. I can highly recommend. Thanks Jonni for a nice stay.

This was a wonderful stay with great communication, advice and comfort at Jonni's Place. I highly recommend this place if you want to escape the crowds of Kyoto and check out small town Japan, which is interesting in itself. I appreciate the friendliness, chats and a great lunch at the soba restaurant. So delicious! Next time I come back, I would definitely reach out to Jonni to see if his place is available. We had an excellent stay at Jonni's Place, being picked up from the train station, enjoying a nice room with a view, a comfortable bed and provided with kimono's and towels, a shared bathroom, kitchen and cosy living room. The environment gave possibilities for a great hiking tour to Mount Kurama and a great visit to the thrines nearby (UNESCO heritage). Jonni added a personal touch to our stay and finally brought us with our luggage to the train station again. We would strongly recommend to stay at his place 🤗🙏

Jonni has a beautiful house with a lake view, perched at the foothill of the sacred Hier mountain. It's a bit of hiking from the station, but as promised, from here you can wander around the village and enjoy local temples in a much quieter setting. The room is spacious, with very clean bedding. Jonni tries to make his guests feel at home. I had an enjoyable time peeking into Japanese culture from his expat pov, besides meeting other travelers from other parts of the world.

Jonni is an excellent host and he's so funny! He knows the area well and will provide you with recommendations, tips, and then sends you on your way. He's so kind, he picked me up from the train station and would take me to the station during day. My room was warm and comfortable with a great view. I really enjoyed our conversations. Than you making my stay wonderful!

A great stay at Jonni's place. Great to be outside the hustle and bustle of Kyoto. Sakamoto is a very interesting place to stay and visit. Recommended

Jonathan is a true gentleman, interested in his guests, wants to show around his neighbourhood and with him you can have a good conversation about anything. The house is very clean, everything there you need and very quiet. The house is located next to the mountains and the lake and there are good train connections to the house. Jonathan picked me up from the station and also drove me there when leaving. Very happy staying there!

We were made to feel like we were at home in Jonni's place. He goes the extra mile to help his guests: he would pick us up and drop us off at the train station every day. A true gentleman. Very comfortable beds and quiet: we slept so well. The town itself has its charms but the temples in the mountain are a must-see. Very few tourists make it there and it's a shame (or maybe a blessing). Definitely try the soba restaurant in town. We took the train in and out of Kyoto and it's a quick journey to Kyoto station. We definitely recommend this place.

We had a wonderful time in Sakamoto, and Jonni was a gracious host. He has a delightful sense of humor, and his insight into Japanese society was an added bonus. His house is very welcoming and clean. We regretted not staying longer.
