The Casa Romero was a great find! Guadalajara has so much going on and this is an amazing space with great hosts who made our stay incredible! Matthew and Adam are the best! They’ve lived in Guadalajara a while now and are well connected with lots going on. There’s an online page they can send with a list of their regular favorites ... but pretty soon you figure out you’d just as well sit for a chat (they’re really close by), talk for a bit, and you’ll get your very own curated guide for the day based on what you’ll find interesting. The best of the best. Now the place itself deserves a bit of explanation here. This is really more like a small hacienda - with a great open courtyard right in the middle of it - than a typical B&B which is to say it’s a hidden gem of a small palace, tucked in an otherwise nondescript industrial and residential pocket of the smokestack city that is Guadalajara. You’ll think the driver is lost on the way in to this place as there’s nothing much in the way of hotels, museums or shops going on around it. The house is nicely decorated and has furniture that was custom-built for it. The style is classic Mexico (1940s); it’s high ceilings, open spaces and bright natural light make it incredible. The pictures are accurate but don’t really do full justice to the experience you get when you arrive and walk in. There’s plenty of lounge space, a dining table and a back patio too! However ... a few other things to consider ... the tourist experience in Guadalajara can be dodgy at times so be careful of your surroundings and travel in a group and / or take Ubers door-to-door particularly at night. It’s not at all a reflection on the hosts or the house itself but still something to be mindful of. Also as for the place itself the only thing we quibbled about was that the bathrooms and showers are outside and the hot water and water pressure are iffy ... especially if you’re the first one up and at the shower in the morning. Also the place itself is tucked away in a zone, it’s a great location to get to places by Uber or the metro (the stop is just a few blocks over) and then after a day out and about you can come back to the place, but it’s just not right in the middle of the action though if that’s what you’d be looking for. This place was a great part of our stay in Mexico! It was hard to find a single stand-alone house with room for eight in central Guadalajara, and if this is the size you are looking for for your group you absolutely have to jump on this place!
