The Reveal

Near LGBTQ+ SceneCozyInsta-WorthyRelaxingCentral location

I live in a 1916 Craftsman bungalow nestled in the heart of Salt Lake City’s gayest residential neighborhood, the historic Marmalade District near Capitol Hill. This listing is for the main floor bedroom. The downstairs room is booked separately.

We are 7 blocks from downtown — a tree-lined 25-minute walk, quick bus ride, or affordable Uber/Lyft. Prefer cycling? A bike-share station is a few blocks away near the library, plus you’ll find Lime scooters close at hand. The airport is a 10-minute ride, $12- $18 by Uber/Lyft or $25 by taxi. We are 30 minutes from the ski resorts, close to a ton of great hikes, and right next to an off-leash dog park, a gay-friendly bar, restaurants, and historic homes.

This main-level bedroom has a king-sized bed, a large-screen TV with Roku, Netflix, and Amazon Prime, and a desk with an office chair if you need to check in for work. It is two steps from the front door for a semi-private entry. Feel free to make yourself at home in the common areas — our kitchen is fully stocked with a Keurig, a variety of coffees, teas, hot chocolate, and a SodaStream with flavored Torani syrups for homemade sodas. I usually have a bottle of wine or spirits open for you to share.

Our spacious backyard features a large deck with loungers, seating areas, a fire pit, and a pond. You can also use the grill. This non-sexual, clothing-optional space is welcoming to all, whether you lounge in swimwear, casual attire, or au naturel.

In our home, you’ll find hotel-style amenities, including shampoo, conditioner, bottled water, fluffy towels, and even full-length terrycloth robes. We recreated the "Heavenly Bed" with high-quality mattresses, memory foam toppers, and high thread-count cotton sheets. Breakfast includes cereals, oatmeal, fruit, bread, jams, and all-day access to a PB&J bar with artisan breads and specialty jams.

I also publish Utah’s LGBTQ+ magazine, which will be available for you to browse, offering insights into local events and spots to explore. Our friendly dog and elusive cat add some charm to your stay.

EDUN is a welcoming retreat in Salt Lake City. I’d love to host you.

Hey guys! I am truly enjoying hosting with MisterBandB. I mostly love meeting people from around the world and figuring out what we have in common and enjoying how we are different. I've hosted over 300 people, and I've made many long-time friends in the years I've done this. I am the publisher and editor of QSaltLake Magazine - Utah's LGBTQ+ news and entertainment magazine. I run Utah Male Naturists and founded qVinum, Salt Lake's LGBT wine-tasting group. I sing with the Salt Lake Men's Choir. I have a friendly dog, Sumaq, and a cat, Sandy. She's pretty friendly, too, when she wants to be. She often hides. I work from home and have lived in the area almost all my life. I know the city's LGBTQ, arts, and food scenes extremely well, and I am happy to give advice on what to do.

"Handlebar" — a dog-friendly bicycle bar is a half-block away. Warm Springs Park, restaurants and coffee shops, a library, and convenience stores are within a few blocks. Bicycles are available for rent two blocks away. Scooters are everywhere.

Gay Salt Lake: • We have Harvey Milk Blvd with many boutique shops, restaurants, some coffee shops, bars, and an art-film movie theater. My favorite stops are Cahoots - a card, gift, and adult shop, and Coffee Garden right next door. Try-Angles is a long-running neighborhood gay bar, and MILK+ is a large dance club. • Trolley Square, located in a large old refurbished trolley garage, has the best gay fashion store, another card/gift shop, restaurants, and a stationer. • The neighborhood I'm in is a gayborhood with many historic homes and a community theater in a historic onion-domed church. • Under the Umbrella and Legendarium are LGBTQ+ bookstores. • We have two other gay bars - The SunTrapp is a dive bar with a big patio, WhyKiKi is right downtown serving food during the day, dance club at night, drag brunch on the weekends, and my favorite dish: Chicks-n-Dicks (chicken fingers and dick-shaped waffles). All are less than 2 miles away. • 45 minutes away is a nude "beach". I say "beach" because the water of the Great Salt Lake has receded so far, it is now just a flat, sandy area. My naturist group has campouts and day trips there. • Our local contemporary art museum often has a queer art exposition going on. • Our queer swim team allows drop-ins on Tuesday and Thursday nights. • Our queer square-dance group allows drop-ins on their Thursday nights. • In the summer there are a lot of queer sports you can watch, including football, dodgeball, and softball (though the leader of the softball is no longer in town, so not sure if that will happen this year). • There are a ton of drag brunches on weekends and Matrons of Mayhem Bingo at a Baptist Church on the 3rd Friday of the month. • Utah Pride Center is downtown with free parking in the City Creek Center. Check their calendar for drop-in events and times. • We no longer have any bathhouses. I miss that, lol. • Other than strictly gay places, there are a ton of places to hike, museums (probably the best natural history museum in the country IMHO), and a huge art scene.

Please, no overnight visitors — add "cannot host" to your ******** profile, haha. You're welcome to have one or two guests join us during the day to enjoy the gardens, but keep sexual activity behind closed doors. We can discuss a pet. My dog gets along with most other dogs, and cats love her. Please be mindful of noise after about 11pm. Smoking is allowed outside only. Note this is a shared bathroom with the host.

Michael was a fantastic host! I simply adored the decorations in his home, his above and beyond hospitality, and the ever lovely Sumac that made sure to keep me company. I would gladly come back again - I just wish I could sooner!

Michael is a wonderful host. His house was just perfect for me. He showed a personal interest in my activities and offered many extra little items. He even gave me a ride to the airport rather than my continued use of Uber. A perfect gentleman. Thank you Michael Courtney.

Michael is an absolutely wonderful host. He was super friendly and chill, and he has great stories! Sadly, the hot tub was broken, but he did let me know before I arrived. I would recommend this place especially if you are wanting a great human interaction.

Had a wonderful time. Michael is a very welcoming host, even naked...Has been active in the community for over 20 years. You feel as if you have know each other as friends forever. His home has a unique eccentric almost Bohemian vibe, casual, and very special! If a coffee lover, many Keurig flavor options. If you happen to be there on a weekend, make make sure you request the waffle special! Highly recommend a stay with Michael and friends. A far more local engagement than any hotel in SLC, and no more than 5 minutes from the downtown area.

This was my second stay with Michael in around two weeks. So by this time the place was home to me and I felt very comfortable. Once again Michael is very accommodating, he's very easy to talk to, and he's very fun to hang out with. He's a great host and I would definitely definitely definitely recommend his place to other travelers. I will be staying there again.

It was great to meet Michael, Sumac & even Sandy! Very nice place ideally located for my travels in/out of SLC. The only negative, & Michael was doing everything to tend to it (around the holidays), is that one of the features of the place, the hot tub, was not working. (I would have used it.). That aside, Michael was overly commodious with food offerings & we even spent part of one evening watching a show very comfortably. Thank you!

Michael was absolutely delightful. He was very patient and concerned about my delays in getting to his place. I instantly felt right right at home, very comfortable, and without skipping a beat got into the attitude of "This is my place now". I had a fabulous two night stay there and I will definitely be returning my next time traveling through Salt Lake City. Thank you Michael!

what a cute, cozy, rainbow oasis mere minutes from the bustling heart of the city. michael has created the perfect, welcoming atmosphere at edun, from the tasty breakfast bar to the lush, green backyard filled with water features, flowers, and trees in bloom. i loved simmering in the crystal clear waters of the hot tub during the cool evening, and petting the home's resident furry animals every day. can't wait to come back again sometime soon!
