As well as holidaying guests, we have had many prospective home buyers (of many nationalities) staying with us looking for a new life in France in the beautiful Charente area, either as a holiday home or permanent residence. We are more than happy to share our experience of moving to France, and hope we can provide you with enough information to help you too.
In Tusson we have a superb restaurant in the village, Le Compostelle, which if you are in the area, you should definitely treat yourself to.
Gateaux, a delightful oasis of a coffee and cake shop which also sells flowers and gift vouchers too.
Our new bar, LE RÉVEIL TUSSONAIS opened in August 2025 and has been a great addition to the village. It is a short 1 minute walk away, and is situated directly opposite the 12th century church.
There are two potteries, and we also have two stained glass studios, and an awesome delicatessen selling local fayre.

Gateaux. No visit to Tusson would be complete without a visit here. Scottish born Lydia, quite simply has a passion for creating delicious cakes that few can surpass. Always coming up with new recipes, (along with my firm favourite, the Chocolate and Guinness cake) she never fails to tempt me to try a new one even when i'm trying to "be good". There is always at least one vegan option available and you know whatever you eat is going to be good. Along with coffees and teas, she also offers delicious soft drinks too. The cafe is open every day 10am - 6pm, except Tuesdays and Thursdays. (280 metres from us).
Le Jardin du Compostelle is a gourmet restaurant in the heart of the village. With a lovely garden area to dine, or a spacious converted barn to eat indoors, you will love this place. Cécile and Laurent Malescot welcome you to their restaurant which is a family business. You will also find an excellent wine list and an extensive selection of Cognacs.
(240 metres from us)
(only available by booking, check for opening times and to book on their website).
There is a small tabac down the road on the right, opposite Gâteau, and is perfect for last minute purchases of snacks and drinks. (230 metres from us)
There is a fantastic pizza takeaway in the village but is only open Thursday - Sunday. Pizza's must be ordered ahead of time. We can do this for you if you would like, and we can email you a copy of the menu.
You will also find two pottery workshops, a stained glass workshop, two sculptors studios, La Maison de Charente (duck delicatessen) and a museum in the village. There is plenty to see and do in Tusson.
