First and foremost: if you're looking for modern comforts, high-tech facilities and an aseptic environment, you won't find any of that here. If you're materialistic, this is definitely not the place for you. At Coteaux d'Eos, you're in an off-grid eco-environment in the heart of a natural site, where human and environmental values are paramount. Here you'll find real contact with nature, with no noise or light pollution, but with a few things to bear in mind.
Access to Coteaux d'Eos, as is generally the case for isolated sites, is very difficult (500 m of steep, winding forest road). But this also explains the absolute tranquility you'll find here. If you don't have a 4X4 vehicle, or one with sufficient body height, you'll find 2 parking spaces between the trees on the left at the entrance to this path. You can leave your vehicle there and continue on foot, or I can pick you up with your luggage if required.
At the end of this path, you'll come to an ecolieu with no external energy connection. The tap and shower water, although filtered (microfiltration + charcoal filter) and sterilized (UV), comes from rainwater stored in cisterns and is therefore not potable. A barrel of drinking water from Salernes village fountains and bottles of spring water are available for cooking and drinking on site. The water flow in the shower is not what you're used to in the comfort of your daily life, but the much smaller flow from a solar-powered pump. The toilets, on the other hand, are dry, with biolitter (see "Bathroom" section).
Solar panels are the site's only source of electricity. This imposes a certain moderation in terms of household appliances, hence the absence of energy-guzzling equipment such as those using resistances (e.g. electric kettle).
Of course, sobriety is not limited to energy consumption: furniture and interior decoration come mainly from recycling centers or donations. You'll find everything you need, but nothing superfluous.
You're also at the heart of a natural site governed by an ecosystem in which animals, and insects in particular, have their rightful place. Depending on the season, you may come across butterflies, ants, flies, wasps, bees, mosquitoes, geckos, dragonflies, as well as bats, tree frogs, hares, foxes, deer, wild boar...
The characteristics of the site (eco-environment and nature refuge), its condition (currently being restored) and its location (in the hills and forest) impose certain rules of good sense. All fires and the use of spark-producing equipment are strictly forbidden throughout the estate, as in all the Haut-Var massifs during the summer season. The entire estate (inside the bastidon and outside) is strictly non-smoking.
