First and foremost: if you're looking for modern comforts, high-tech equipment and aseptic surroundings, you won't find any of that here. You're in an eco-location in the heart of a natural site, so you'll find real contact with nature without noise or light pollution, but you'll need to take into account a number of factors mentioned below.
You're in an eco-lieu with no external energy connections. Water for taps and showers comes from rainwater stored in cisterns and is therefore not drinkable.
Drinking water, to be collected with jerrycans from the Salernes fountains, is stored in the stainless steel food-grade barrel located on the cabinet opposite the kitchen sink. You can use this water to fill the carafe in the bathroom for rinsing your teeth.
The water flow in the shower is not what you're used to in the comfort of your daily life, but the much smaller flow from a solar-powered pump.
Using the dry toilets is very simple: after each use, cover your waste with a layer of litter (a mixture of sawdust, wood shavings and door leaves) using the ladle available nearby. Dry toilets should be emptied as soon as the vault is 2/3 full. Then simply close the compost bag containing your waste, take it to the current year's compost heap at the end of the vegetable garden's restanque, cover it with a layer of wood shavings (heap next to the bins), replace a new compost bag in the vault and pour in a first layer of litter.
Of course, sobriety isn't just about energy: the furniture and interior decor come mainly from recycling centres or donations. You'll find ******** necessary, but not ******** superfluous.
You're also at the heart of a natural site governed by an ecosystem in which animals, and insects in particular, have their rightful place. So, depending on the season, you may come across butterflies, ants, flies, wasps, bees, mosquitoes, geckos, dragonflies, but also tree frogs, hares, foxes, deer, wild boar...
The characteristics of the site (eco-environment and nature refuge), its condition (currently being restored) and its location (in the hills) call for certain rules of good sense.
All fires and spark-producing devices are strictly forbidden on the estate, as in all the Haut-Var massifs during the summer season (if you're a smoker, you can smoke in front of the bastidon, where an ashtray will be at your disposal).
Finally, we ask you not to climb or step over the (very fragile) retaining walls of the restanques, to be vigilant when moving around (to avoid injury from holes, stones, creepers and branches on the ground...) and to respect the calm and cleanliness of the area.
