I have spent enough time in Edinburgh to know that the weather is rarely the point, which is important because the weather is frequently challenging. What the city offers instead is one of the most compact and walkable historic environments in Europe, a gay community centred around the Broughton Street area known as the Pink Triangle, and a Festival in August that transforms the whole city into something extraordinary. The Broughton Street corridor - bars, cafes, independent shops, community spaces - operates year-round and feels genuinely embedded in the New Town neighbourhood rather than separated from it. Scotland has been notably progressive on LGBTQ+ rights relative to the UK average, and Edinburgh's political class has been consistently supportive. The view from Calton Hill, the Royal Mile, the castle visible from almost everywhere: Edinburgh has the kind of dramatic physical setting that makes ordinary evenings feel cinematic. Gay Edinburgh has produced some of the best queer theatre, comedy, and cabaret in the world during the Fringe. For LGBTQ+ verified stays and the full community guide, misterb&b Edinburgh is where I look first. 🏳️🌈 The Edinburgh LGBTQ+ community is also notably active in the arts: the Fringe programming consistently includes some of the best queer theatre and performance in the English-speaking world, and the community organisations here have been effective advocates at both the Scottish Parliament and UK national level. The Scottish Parliament's record on LGBTQ+ legislation - equal age of consent, adoption rights, gender recognition reform - has been consistently ahead of the UK average. The Surgeon's Hall Museum, the National Museum of Scotland, and the Scott Monument in Princes Street Gardens: Edinburgh is a city of serious museums and extraordinary free cultural access. For LGBTQ+ verified stays and the full community guide, misterb&b Edinburgh is where I look first.

"First night is for eating well and getting to know your bearings: weather permitting, head to the shore of leith for some great beer gardens and great seafood! If not there, a lunch time walk on the beach and along the woods at Crammond is perfect. Next day let's do a little more sight seeing and some fun activity such as comedy club or pub quiz before heading to some of the gay nightlife bars/club: don't forget a good hearty Scottish meal before hand. Last day; let's head to the sauna"
"Walk in the Meadows and beer in a pub in the city centre. Dinner at a restaurant on George Street and then an evening between pubs in Leith "the street" and "cc bloom""

"My perfect weekend starts with a hike up Arthur's Seat for the phenomenal city views. I love just strolling around the Old Town to soak up the vibe, before heading to the 'Pink Triangle.' Whether it's brunch at The Street or late-night dancing at CC Blooms, these spots never lose their magic. It's the perfect mix of history, energy, and community"
