"Mark is the perfect host. Fantastic communication when I first booked and then a couple of weeks before arrival asking if there was anything I needed answering. He is extremely friendly, generous with his time and a great conversationist. He is intelligent and funny and made my time in O'ahu even better than I ever expected. The apartment is clean and the bed so comfortable. I highly recommend staying with Mark, I certainly will be when I return to Honolulu!! Thanks Mate!!"

"I had a wonderful week staying in a cabin near the main house. Patrick and Brian are the kindest hosts and a fount of knowledge on plants, Hawaiian history and culture and places to visit. The dogs, goat and other animals are equally friendly and you feel part of nature in the forest. You really need a car as it's quite tucked away, but it's easy to access the volcano area and the coast. The only inconvenience is that Mister B&B make the hosts collect local tax additionally, unlike other providers."

"Great place and an awesome room.
First, know that this is about 30 minutes further "out of town" from the small town of Pahoa (which itself is 30 minutes or so from Hilo). The back of the property is right up against rain forest, so if you're looking for a nice out-of-the-way spot, you can't get much more out of the way than this. That was exactly what I wanted, and it didn't disappoint, but definitely do your shopping on the way through Hilo or Pahoa before you check in.
Second, the garden room is a wonderful experience. If you've never slept in a tent or thin-walled structure in a rainforest before, be aware that it is very loud at night. You'll have birds right on the roof above you as well as a few feet away in the trees competing with all the frogs and birds and other sounds of the night. I've had prior experience with this and actively wanted the "surround sound" experience. For one person, the bed is a nice size; for two, it'd probably be cozy, especially if you're larger individuals. The stairs up were a non-issue for me. The other advantage of the room is that it is on the south side of the building, while the other rooms are on the north side. This meant that if some visitors get a little noisy at night, you're mostly isolated from it all.
As this is a clothing optional resort, be comfortable with nudity - and as with most gay-focused c/o places, guys can get a little frisky at times and in shared spaces; it's all polite and friendly, but if that is going to bother you, a c/o B&B likely isn't the best option. It's also not exclusive to any group; there were several women there at various times during my stay, and I actually spent most of a couple days hanging out with one gal, including getting dinner and hitting the beach. The whole atmosphere is just generally relaxed and welcoming.
As a final note, Stephen as host was great. He was always ready to supply hiking advice (or even tours if he has the time), give massages, make breakfast, or take care of minor issues."

"This is our third January in a row to hang out at Kehena Beach! We love this beautiful, relaxing, eclectic place. We had rain, we had sunshine, we had the black sand beach and wonderful meals in Pahoa and two great nights at Uncle Robert's community songfest and great food. The property borders the rain forest and is very much and tropical. Monday night BBQ, where locals bring in potluck, is just the best kind of gay energy you could ever want in such a tropical setting. Mat and staff are constantly making the setting more diverse and inviting. A new gym deck has just been built and there are a few pieces of equipment and weights. The black sand clothing optional beach is 10 minute walk. We meet really fun and interesting people staying here. This stay we got to visit Kilaeua's 40th eruption. Incredible! We are going back again in January 27. Go! It will be a wonderful, memorable experience. Thanks Mat and Jeff for providing this wonderful space!"

"We stayed at Farmer Bill's place a few years ago and liked it so much we decided to book it again for a short stay. The cottage is separate from the residence and has its own access to the main road and the fresh fruit from the farm was an added and delicious bonus. Good location for the beach, the local coastline attractions, Pahoa and the Volcanos National Park!"

"My husband and I, both âsenior citizensâ, spent our first wedding anniversary at the Oceanfront Bali Hut, and it greatly exceeded our expectations!
Located along the famous Kapoho Kalapana Road, also known as the Red Road, the entire estate was beautifully landscaped, from the charm and ruggedness of the hut, down to the lava flats and the crashing ocean waves just beyond. We loved the outdoor kitchen/dining area which was perfectly situated under a pergola extending from the hut. With the food we bought from nearby markets, we had everything we needed to make great meals.
Down the path was a wonderful outdoor hot-water shower, fitting of a tropical rainforest. We enjoyed walking naked between the shower and the hut.
Weâre nature lovers, and were delighted with all the lush vegetation surrounding us, fruit and flowers were everywhere. The local wildlife included Saffron Finches, dazzling butterflies, and colorful little geckos, curious as to what we humans were up to. We also enjoyed feeding the two resident white ducks who roamed the estate.
Our entire time there, we had a deep sense of engagement with nature, and spent many hours relaxing under the pergola, watching the daytime turn into a moonlit nightscape, filled with a glorious chorus by the exotic frogs and crickets. Truly inspirational! The bed was extremely comfortable, and the Wi-Fi was excellent.
The entire place is invisible from the road, and we felt so safe that we never locked the front door during our stay. Dwight and Brian were very friendly and attentive, making sure our stay was exceptional. Weâve already decided to return for our second anniversary!
If youâre looking for a true island paradise hideaway, Oceanside Bali Hut is the real thing!

"First, the hosts, Chad & Alberto, are very friendly, helpful and accommodating.
They were very generous with me and upgrade me in a much nicer room.
Second, the location, Kihei is very nice with good restaurants (I recommend Nula's).
Also, it is not too far from a very special beach, the Little Beach at Makena Park!
Third, the home is very clean, well appointed and the backyard very peaceful!
Special award to Alberto for Christmas Decorations. He should get an award for that.
I'm looking forward to visit them again, but it is very far from home (France)
and I certainly recommend others to do so. Gilles"

"Isle of You is an incredible getaway in a beautiful part of the Big Island! The cabin was clean, well organized, and had everything you needed. Kelly and Normand were extremely attentive and communicative leading up to the stay. I couldn't have asked for a better place to go off the grid and enjoy nature in Hawaii. I hope to come back soon!"

"Michael is such a gracious host, and he has great recommendations for hikes, beaches and tours. His rental unit is cozy and just right for 2 people, tucked away with total privacy. Very close to town for easy walking to stores, coffee and downtown restaurants. It's a great value for several nights on the east side of the island. Bonus: His cats will poke their head in for a visit if you leave the door open for air flow!"

"The experience at Lou's and Tony's Kaawaloa Trail Farm was just amazing! After finding my way uphill through a narrow private road through the forest, I slept in a beautifully designed little cabin just outside their house with my own little patio, a big tatami bed with lots of blankets (it got a bit chilly in November) and a little kitchenette, which had a few foods available as well as tea and some of their own coffee. While the two hosts were mainly working on the farm or downhill in the town, they were outstandingly accommodating! Definitely don't miss out on the breakfast with all the amazing freshly-harvested fruits such as custard apple and passion fruit! Total recommendation!"
