Aloha! Kehena Mauka Nui Club is a clothing optional and gay/LGBTQIA+ guesthouse located steps away from Kehena Beach, a clothing optional black sand beach in the Puna district of the Big Island of Hawaii. We encourage our guests to meet each other and be social to experience the true gift of travel: the people you meet along the way. Breakfast is not automatically included in the room rate. However, we offer several on-site breakfast options for purchase.

IMPORTANT: 1) You must be able to climb the ladder steps (pictured) in order to access this room. 2) This is an open loft room above the shared living room, dining room and kitchen. We maintain quiet hours from 9pm till 8am in the common spaces below to provide peaceful rest in the room but you may hear other guests passing through in the night. We are able to provide earplugs upon request. 3) Our cat (pictured) is able to access this space and it is not possible to keep her out if you are allergic or do not like cats.

Even though this is listed as a "shared room", you will have the entire loft space to yourself and no one else will be sleeping there. We listed it that way because it is open to the common spaces below.

The Ladder Loft Room Room is a cozy space that feels like being in the helm of a boat. This room is surrounded by windows and screened openings on three sides. The ladder is designed like the stairs of a sailboat with a handle carved into each rung. The room is somewhat visually private from the common areas below. If you enjoy the sounds of the Hawaiian rains, tree frogs and ocean, this space is for you. There is also a large desk and chair workspace with a small streaming TV and two connected bluetooth headphones for silent watching.

The house is just minutes on foot to Kehena Beach (Hawaii's premiere clothing optional beach). A short drive up the road you will find the hot ponds at Pohoiki, where you may float and soak in the hot salty spring water.

We foster a guesthouse experience where our visitors are encouraged to interact and intermingle, while having the ability to retreat to their own private room spaces.

Free coffee is provided in the morning and on-site breakfast options are available for purchase.

All of the rooms in the house have access to a shared bathroom, shared full kitchen and common gathering spaces, such as the living room, porches, gym, and dining area.

My stay at this accommodation on the Big Island was absolutely amazing! The location is perfect—nestled in a peaceful area surrounded by natural beauty and just a short distance from the black sand beach. The hosts were incredibly friendly and helpful, adding so much warmth to my visit. What made it even better was meeting and befriending other travelers staying there; we had a blast exploring together and sharing stories. The accommodations were cozy and inviting, providing a great place to relax and unwind. Sitting outside, enjoying the tranquil atmosphere, was a highlight of my trip. If you're looking for a fun and welcoming place to stay on the Big Island, this is it! From the ideal location to the friendly vibe, it made my Hawaiian adventure unforgettable. Can't wait to return and make more memories in this awesome spot!

I loved staying at this place. The vibe is laid back. The ladder loft room worked out great for us. It was nice getting to know the hosts and other guests. Ashton keeps the place up well

Great location, close to black Beach (clothing optional). Monday evening BBQ party was fun. Met few locals people. As mentioned, there are no stores close by. So, one has to do some planning ahead to avoid driving back and forth.

I can not remember to be so welcomed and be treated with respect in a property so well maintained by its people. Thanks to Johal for looking after me when I injured my back he did the extra mile to make me at ease. I will recommend the property but please keep me a bed only for me and the cat.

My stay was great, even better than expected. The house and grounds are both gorgeous, there's a new hot tub, the place is well decorated, it was nice meeting the hosts and other guests, the Monday barbeque was fun, Mat was chill with me using the kitchen and had good advice on what to check out in the area, and it's walking distance from the beach and a reasonable drive to the national park and other sites. I'd love to stay again.

I had a great experience at Mathew's place. It was the perfect getaway from the city to connect with nature, relax and just rest. Kahena black sand beach is just a few blocks away and the house was very comfortable in general. I would recommend staying here if you're planning to run away from the city and connect with your inner self and Mother Nature.

Matt's house is really beautiful and the loft room very comfortable, an excellent value for the price. Matt was available for any questions The Monday afternoon BBQ in his yard offered a nice opportunity to socialize with locals. Definitely recommended.
