Aloha! Kehena Mauka Nui Club is a clothing optional and gay/LGBTQIA+ guesthouse located steps away from Kehena Beach, a clothing optional black sand beach in the Puna district of the Big Island of Hawaii. We encourage our guests to meet each other and be social to experience the true gift of travel: the people you meet along the way. Breakfast is not automatically included in the room rate. However, we offer several on-site breakfast options for purchase.
The Garden Oasis Room is a unique experience for visitors who want to want to be connected with the amazing Hawaiian landscape...without pitching-a-tent! This room is a mini-greenhouse, screened and exposed to the outdoors, on three sides! (the bed feels nearly nestled in the garden's branches and trees. An easy climb up into a full-size, double bed, from a small, private greenhouse sitting area will have you in your own mini "tree house". The room is largely private from other guests, yet open and exposed to a private area of the rainforest. If you enjoy the sounds of the Hawaiian rains, tree frogs and ocean, this space is for you. This room has a small 5 step "ladder" to get up into the bed. A small ceiling-mount fan is provided, above the bed, for comfort and circulation.
The house is just minutes on foot to Kehena Beach (Hawaii's premiere clothing optional beach). A short drive up the road you will find the hot ponds at Pohoiki, where you may float and soak in the hot salty spring water.
We foster a guesthouse experience where our visitors are encouraged to interact and intermingle, while having the ability to retreat to their own private room spaces.
Free coffee is provided in the morning and on-site breakfast options are available for purchase.
All of the rooms in the house have access to a shared bathroom, shared full kitchen and common gathering spaces, such as the living room, porches, gym, and dining area.

Great room and great experience again. It's hard to beat feeling like you're sleeping in the canopy, and the staff and other guests were as friendly and helpful as always. Thanks again!
The Garden Oasis room was a great spot. I stayed for 8 nights. The mattress did get pretty uncomfortable for multiple nights. The room had a lot of charm. The room is semi-private with three of the fours walls being a screen wall. The room does get loud at night due to the coquis. Also, note that anyone sitting on the deck can hear what is going on in the room and the person in the room can hear what is happening on the deck. The hot tub and outdoor shower were big wins.
Great place and an awesome room. First, know that this is about 30 minutes further "out of town" from the small town of Pahoa (which itself is 30 minutes or so from Hilo). The back of the property is right up against rain forest, so if you're looking for a nice out-of-the-way spot, you can't get much more out of the way than this. That was exactly what I wanted, and it didn't disappoint, but definitely do your shopping on the way through Hilo or Pahoa before you check in. Second, the garden room is a wonderful experience. If you've never slept in a tent or thin-walled structure in a rainforest before, be aware that it is very loud at night. You'll have birds right on the roof above you as well as a few feet away in the trees competing with all the frogs and birds and other sounds of the night. I've had prior experience with this and actively wanted the "surround sound" experience. For one person, the bed is a nice size; for two, it'd probably be cozy, especially if you're larger individuals. The stairs up were a non-issue for me. The other advantage of the room is that it is on the south side of the building, while the other rooms are on the north side. This meant that if some visitors get a little noisy at night, you're mostly isolated from it all. As this is a clothing optional resort, be comfortable with nudity - and as with most gay-focused c/o places, guys can get a little frisky at times and in shared spaces; it's all polite and friendly, but if that is going to bother you, a c/o B&B likely isn't the best option. It's also not exclusive to any group; there were several women there at various times during my stay, and I actually spent most of a couple days hanging out with one gal, including getting dinner and hitting the beach. The whole atmosphere is just generally relaxed and welcoming. As a final note, Stephen as host was great. He was always ready to supply hiking advice (or even tours if he has the time), give massages, make breakfast, or take care of minor issues.
I'm already wanting to book my next trip. I was in desperate need of rest and relaxation. Houston was the perfect host! He creates a welcoming experience where all body shapes are beautiful. He was full of suggestions for local excursions. Hands down one of the best massage I've ever had!!!!
Wonderful stay and was able to really enjoy the host and the wonderful black sand beach. Some great people were staying while I was there and I was able to have some private time and some collective group activities. Overall, I would stay again! Be prepared to sleep with earplugs unless you are used to frogs and insect noises all night.
This place and hosts are wonderful. The pictures do not do the beauty of the property justice. The pics are beautiful and even more so in person. Our Garden room was amazing and really gave that tree house glamping kinda vibe. Our hosts were also amazing and really welcomed us and helped answer the million questions we had. We will definitely book again when we come back to the island.
This was a really delightful place to stay. I wish we had been able to stay longer. I really liked the sounds of coqui frogs, geckos, and birds at night. (If this is not your thing, then this is not the right room for you! But It sure was for us.). The cedar hot tub under the banyan tree was also a really nice touch.
Amazing place, a little hidden paradise, quiet, serene. Great place for relaxing and travelling with friends. I hope to travel and stay in this place longer next time. Definitely recommended to all.
Very nice area and very private. My room was very unique all exposed but very nice. I meet the gardener and he is very friendly. Nude beach in a walking distance. Also very tasty breakfast. Hopefully I can come back very soon
I enjoyed 4 nights stay in the garden room at the Kehena Mauka Nui guesthouse during my first trip to the big island. I can't recommend this wonderful place enough! Although the regular host, Matthew, was off-island during my visit, Joel and his partner were awesome hosts. They went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable for my stay, made delicious breakfasts and provided helpful tips and advice for my daily adventures. I loved drinking coffee au natural on the porch each morning and walking to the beautiful black sand beach that's just down the road. I felt very welcome and relaxed at the guesthouse. The garden room is probably the best room for sleeping, as I was surrounded each night with the warm breezes and tropical sounds of the island. Will definitely return here as soon as I can; it's a real gem!
