The news made headlines in the Dutch media and begins to buzz around the world. This is the first time that a Jewish and a Morrocan floats will appear at the famous Amsterdam Gay Pride Canal parade, the only Pride parade in the world to take place on the water.
The presence of these two floats during Amsterdam Gay Pride will help these two groups to fight against the exclusion of LGBT people in their own communities, where sometimes homosexuality is still a taboo and a huge misunderstanding. Homosexuals in these communities will get more media visibility and break the image of communitarianism often linked to that of LGBT people.
The Exodays organization will represent the Dutch Jewish homosexuals during the Canal Parade. There will also be an American ship in the parade, called "Freedom to Marry" which will advocate for the legalization of gay marriage in the United States.
Amsterdam will have the privilege of standing for more cultural diversity by welcoming representatives of the Jewish and Moroccan communites on these boats. During the parade on August 2, they will sail on the canals among 80 other boats who won their presence at the March lottery.
The Amsterdam Gay Pride Canal Parade is probably one of the most original gay events in the world. Hundreds of thousands of people will acclaim the parade, like they do every year for 18 years.
