Exploring the world with pride is at the heart of everything we do at misterb&b and weere. While the travel landscape in the U.S. has seen some shifts over the past year, our community’s resilience remains stronger than ever.
To help you plan your next getaway with peace of mind, we’ve updated our Queer Safety Index for 2026. This year, we’ve looked beyond local laws to include real-world travel vibes, social stability, and the strength of local community support. Whether you’re looking for a high-energy Pride or a chill weekend away, here is where you’ll find the warmest welcomes.
Instead of focusing on headlines, here is how to navigate the current climate like a pro:
City vs. State: Remember that many U.S. cities act as “welcoming hubs.” Even in states with changing policies, cities like Atlanta or Austin maintain local protections and a vibrant, inclusive culture.
The Power of Community: Local “Safe Space” initiatives have expanded. Look for the “Safe Haven” decals in windows—these are businesses committed to providing a secure and welcoming environment for all.
Stay Informed: In dynamic cities like Minneapolis or Washington D.C., checking local community boards or weere a few days before you arrive helps you navigate any local events or gatherings with ease.
Our scores have been recalibrated to favor cities with active community protections and a stable social atmosphere.

Safety in 2026 is about being informed and connected. Here is how to make the most of your trip:
Check for “Safe Haven” Decals: Many businesses now display these to show they are trained in LGBTQ+ allyship and de-escalation.
Monitor Local Events: For cities like Minneapolis or Nashville, a quick check of local community boards helps you navigate any public gatherings with ease.
Use weere: Chat with locals before you land. They can give you real-time updates on the best neighborhoods and the safest ways to get around.
The U.S. remains a country of incredible diversity. With a little planning and the right community connections, your 2026 travels will be unforgettable.
Our Queer Safety Index isn't just a list of “friendly” places; it’s a data-driven model designed for the modern traveler. For 2026, we’ve updated our formula to reflect both legislative protections and on-the-ground reality.
Booking Popularity (misterb&b Data): We start with where our community is actually going. Higher booking volumes often indicate a thriving, visible community.
Policy & Legal Protections: We integrate the Movement Advancement Project (MAP) and HRC Municipal Equality Index to assess local laws (non-discrimination, healthcare access, and “Safe Haven” statutes).
Community Support Density: We factor in the presence of PFLAG chapters and LGBTQ+ community centers per capita.
The 2026 Stability Factor (New): We’ve introduced a “Social Stability” metric. This looks at FBI-reported hate crimes over the last year and balances them against “Community Resilience”—the ability of a city to provide secure environments during large events or periods of political tension.
Normalization: Every factor is scaled from 0 to 1, then weighted to produce the final score.
Expert Note: A lower score doesn’t mean a city is “unsafe,” but rather that it requires a bit more planning and situational awareness due to the surrounding state-level political climate.
