Oslo surprised me. I expected a cold, expensive, somewhat austere Scandinavian capital, and instead I found one of the most genuinely gay-friendly cities I have spent time in - not in a visible-scene way, but in the deeper sense of a society that has normalised same-sex life so completely that the concept of a distinct gay space has become almost voluntary. Norway legalised same-sex marriage in 2008, one of the earliest in Europe, and that history shapes everything. The Grunerlogga neighbourhood has the highest concentration of LGBTQ+ venues and is also the most interesting neighbourhood in the city - independent shops, cafes, bars, where the gay community and the creative community have merged into the same thing. Oslo Pride in June is enormous relative to the city's size. The fjord is always there at the edge of everything, which gives even a night out in the city centre a particular quality of light in summer. For gay-hosted accommodation in Oslo, misterb&b Oslo is reliable. 🏳️🌈 The Oslo gay scene has the quality that characterises the best Scandinavian LGBTQ+ environments: unpretentious, genuinely integrated, and operating with the confidence of a community that has had legal equality for so long that the question of whether it will be protected has largely ceased to be the central anxiety. The Akerselva river corridor in Grunerlogga is lined with outdoor tables in summer, and the gay venues here blend into the neighbourhood's broader cafe and bar culture in a way that makes the whole area feel naturally welcoming. The Oslo Opera House - which you can walk across the roof of - the Vigeland sculpture park, the Viking Ship Museum: Oslo has serious cultural depth alongside its reputation for outdoor life. For LGBTQ+ verified accommodation, misterb&b Oslo is reliable.

"A perfect gay weekend in Oslo is relaxed and easygoing. Start in Grünerløkka for coffee, brunch and a walk along the river Akerselva. Enjoy dinner at Arakataka in the city centre. For LGBTQ+ nightlife, London Pub is the main meeting point with a friendly, mixed crowd. End the weekend with a social sauna session at SALT by the fjord. Oslo's scene is small but welcoming, and the best moments are usually simple: good food, good people, and time by the water."
"My perfect gay weekend in Oslo would start with going to Huk for a swim and some proper summer feeling by the water. Later I'd either relax there for a while or go to Sørenga and lie in the sun by the fjord. In the evening, I'd meet up with friends, have a few drinks, and then go to London Pub to dance. Simple, social, and very Oslo."
"If the weather is nice, during summer, go to Huk nudist beach, or Homolulu - the gay nudist beach."

"I like to go to the Agenda, London Pub and the drag shows and SALT. I like cruising in Ola Narr park or Stensparken. Homolulu beach is a rocky but gay nude beach in Bygdøy with lots of cruising."
