How gay-friendly is Puerto Vallarta?

Puerto Vallarta is known worldwide as the number one gay destination in Mexico. I think it's also considered to be one of the top ten gay destinations in the world.

Life here can be simple yet luxurious at the same time. People in Puerto Vallarta are extremely friendly, there’s a festive vibe all year long and the surroundings will push you to try new stuff. Be in the mood to discover something new every day!

What are the best gay events that take place there each year?

There are several: Puerto Vallarta’s White Party in February, where you can celebrate your Valentine (or find a new one!) The Atlantis Cruise week in October, and, of course, Puerto Vallarta Gay Pride week is among the biggest events. So, as you can see, the gay scene never fades in Puerto Vallarta!

We only have 48 hours in your city. What can’t we miss?

Whatever you do, find some time to go and relax at the gay beach. Another fun and quite popular activity in Puerto Vallarta are the zip-lines at the Canopy River. Go get a Mexican breakfast at Los Alcatraces restaurant, then spend the rest of your morning walking around Puerto Vallarta’s oldtown and downtown.

Make sure you get to the boardwalk by sunset in order to enjoy the show. Go take the traditional picture at Los Muertos Pier and start your night out with a juicy Margarita at La Margarita Bar. Don’t forget to pay a visit to La isla de los Gatos and make a donation to the shelter!

Favorite gay place to grab a bite for lunch?

I love the lunch-time menu at Fredy's Tucan. For dinner, I would recommend Red Cabagge, El Mole de Jovita and Bistro Teresa.

And a gay place for brunch on weekends?

Taste @ Casa Cupula is my personal favourite. However, if you go at the weekend, make sure you book in advance as it can get kind of crowded!

We’re ready to party! The best gay clubs?

If you really want to get a feeling of Puerto Vallartan people, you should definitely go to Antropology and Paco's Ranch.

The best gay alternative spots where you live?

La Noche, La Margarita and CC Slaughters are all close to my place. And they’re some of the most popular gay bars, despite being very different from each other. But you know, diversity is nice!

Are there any places related to LGBT history?

Yes, and we’re very proud of it: Paco's Ranch bar is hands-down the oldest nightclub in town and Blue Chairs beach club has been around for ages, too. Back in the days, these were LGBT safe heavens.

Can you share a secret or little-known place to visit in gay Puerto Vallarta?

Try seafood in a non-touristic area... you can find it in the north side of the city. My suggestion would be Betos Restaurant and Guachos; they’re both amazing places.

Any beaches, parks or other places to chill? 

Los Muertos beach has a vivid gay scene and it's so much fun down there. There are a few restaurants and beach clubs where you can spend the day and relax. You can also try Conchas Chinas beach.

There's an amazing observatory: El Mirador de la Cruz in downtown. ●
