Located in the owner’s apartment above the original J. O. Lumley & Co. general store, two bedrooms offer rest to the cyclist and motorist travelling along the Talbot Trail. The building was constructed in 1888 as the main commercial building of the hamlet of Iona (named after Iona, Scotland). The section of the apartment containing the bed and breakfast bedrooms dates to the year of construction; the rest of the apartment was redecorated in an Arts & Crafts style around 1910.

The two bedrooms share a washroom with shower. A balcony offers views onto the one acre of treed grounds with such Carolinian species as tulip, sycamore, Kentucky coffee and catalpa. Use of the parlor and dining room is included along with free Wi-Fi. This is a television-free facility.

Locked bike storage on the ground floor is available along with car parking in assigned spaces. A wood fired sauna is available.

A museum and historic house curator, involved in the architectural preservation movement... These interests led to the restoration of the Lumley & Co. generals store beginning in 2015. I've lived in a Montreal limestone terrace, Guelph stone house and a Windsor Arts & Crafts bungalow, but a general store residence is an entirely different experience. I also keep a vegetable garden and am a choral and brass band musician.

The Laurence place is unbelievable... never slept in a similar unique and special house: it's dated 1888 about with beautiful and pretty furnitures inside. And beside the house (there is an inner way) Laurence has an antiquity shop full of everything everyone has always desired. Everything was perfect for my staying and Laurence is a special host: very polite and kind and it was a pleasure talking to him. Very interesting man.

I was traveling between Massachusetts and Michigan and needed a place to stay en route. I love cutting thru Ontario. Rather than stay in a hotel, I decided to see what misterb&b had to offer. Much to my surprise, there was a listing about 90 mins outside of Detroit. What a gem of a place. It's in a tiny town with not much going on, but the accommodations were stellar. Gracious host, antique-filled home, and the best home-made breakfast ever. An experience I will not soon forget. Stay here!

Serendipity led me here. I am gone now but it lives on inside me like a dream... the silence of Iona, the split-level architecture of Lumley & Co, its furniture & objects, the spicy scent, the food full of love, Laurence's exquisiteness, the perfect nights of sleep and the amazingly soft patina of the bed sheets, along with many more impressions i will feed on for long! (and i shall go back of course)
