The Airmadillo: Vintage Airstream, Central Houston

The Airmadillo is a well-appointed modernized Airstream tucked behind our 1933 cottage here in central Houston. We've always lived in small homes and had a lot of fun updating this vintage airstream to be a future-retro style guesthouse for friends, family and/or travelers in between. This is the Airmadillo's second home. It was first stationed at our property near Big Bend National Park.

As fellow travelers, we know how nice it is to be able to meter the level of interaction you want with hosts. That’s why we’ve set up this Airstream as a self checkin with a private entrance so guests can come and go as they please, at any time of the day or night. There is no shared view or common space with hosts, though it is right in our backyard if you should need anything.

AMENITIES: Even though this is a travel camper, no creature comforts have been spared. Guests can expect the following amenities:

- california king bed w/flatscreen TV and light blocking roller shades
- full kitchen w/ small oven, two-burner range, fridge/freezer and sink
- small but complete bathroom with space-age sized shower, sink and toilet
- desk w/office chair and privacy screens
- living area with couch that could serve as a crash pad for a third
- wifi
- furnace and AC
- private entrance & small outdoor seating area
- free off-street parking

While this listing is new for Houston, it is not a new space. We did have this very airstream near Big Bend National Park and folks loved it.

LOCATION/ACCESS: We prefer driving as little as possible and chose Near Northside as our home because biking and public transit are right out our front door. While we don’t have much food and beverage within walking distance (yet), some of the best of Houston is an earshot away by bike, transit or a 5 minute Lyft/Uber.

- Red Line / Quitman Station is two blocks away.
- BCycle bikeshare station two blocks away.
- For those traveling through Houston via highway, we are just off the I-10 and I-45 Interstate exchange.

TRAVELER TYPE: While no creature comforts have been spared, this type of stay is for travelers who prefer one-of-kind spaces and appreciate examples of minimalist living. We love to meet our guests IF they want that and we’ll always have a bourbon on standby :) Just say so!

In sum, this is a great basecamp with easy access to Central Houston and also serves as a retreat in and of itself.
