The Moulin Rouge : a history, an architecture, dancers...

From the first steps in this hall, we are transported in the colorful universe of the "French Cancan". Created by Henri Mahé in 1951, it can accommodate 800 people for each performance of the show "Féérie" which dazzles us with the diversity of its costumes, decorations and the charm of its dancers.

Since its opening in 1889, the Moulin Rouge has amazed its most prestigious spectators, including Prince Edward, Queen Elizabeth II and the Princess of Wales. The Moulin Rouge has also hosted many legendary artists such as Elton John, Liza Minelli, Frank Sinatra, Charles Aznavour and even the Village People!

Since the 1960s, there has been a superstition that Cabaret-type shows should only have titles beginning with the letter "F", just like the famous dance "French Cancan". This would guarantee the success of each performance. That's why, for the last fifty years, the Moulin Rouge has presented shows called "Frou-Frou", "Formidable" and "Féérie".

The architecture of the Moulin Rouge has survived the years and has adapted to the need for renewal in the last century. However, the emblematic Moulin remains on top of the building, as does the atmosphere which has remained warm and dedicated to the pleasure of all. throughout the years, Moulin Rouge shows have always been extravagant and have demonstrated an unparalleled ability for quick set and costume changes. The feathers and sequins are always there to compliment the beautiful dancers.

Spending an evening at the Moulin Rouge means going through over 120 years of history, entertainment and fun. That's why, after experiencing the Moulin Rouge and seeing the show "Féérie", we bet you won't be able to stop singing "Danse Paris danse" with a huge smile on your face!
