I discovered gay Prague at a point when I was looking for something that wasn't Berlin but shared Berlin's lack of pretension, and Prague delivered. The gay scene here is centred on the Vinohrady neighbourhood - the elegant late 19th century residential district of art nouveau apartment buildings that has quietly become one of the most LGBTQ+-friendly neighbourhoods in Central Europe. Czech Republic has registered partnerships for same-sex couples (marriage equality continues to be debated), and Prague's relationship with LGBTQ+ culture is complex - more conservative nationally, but Prague itself operates as a genuinely open city.
