Code name is currently "Eagle Plaza", in reference to the very close SF Eagle, an iconic gay bar of the neighborhood: the project of a plaza dedicated to the leather community has just been launched in San Francisco's South of Market (Soma), an area home to a number of gay bars and nightclubs for decades..
Worn by the community and welcomed by the District’s supervisor, the project is to create « a public gathering space for the neighborhood, a green respite from the city, a place to host special community events (like Folsom or the Leather Week), and a way to commemorate the unique LGBTQ history of the surrounding Folsom Gulch area ».
Located on 12th Street, between Harrison and Bernice streets, the plaza would be decked out in the colors of the leather flag (blue, black, white and red heart).
